before moving down here from the bay area, i hear just plain awful things about la. the smog, the traffic, the fake people, the egos, etc.

however, since i’ve been here i’ve been on the receiving end of numerous random acts of kindness. i would even say i’ve have better luck with kindness here than i have in san francisco. need an example? here’s what happened to me today….

1) i stopped at See’s Candies to get myself a little something when a 40 something gentleman stops to ask my help in choosing candy for his girlfriend. we chat for a bit and i suggest some favorites, then when it’s my turn to purchase candy, he covers my bill. so nice!

2) i head to ralphs to pick up some groceries for the week and when i’m in line a 20 something female see’s that i’m pulling out an old version of the ralph’s card. she let’s me know that there is a new version of the card that accrues points and even hands me the application for the new one. so nice!

3) i head to my gym to kill it with some cardio and pilates. as i enter the building, one of the counter girls asks me if i’m an actress then lets me know she’s unable to do her 3 day part on a music video and offers me the role. sadly i’m not an actress so i politely refuse and she thanks me for listening to her. so nice!

all of this in just one day. i’m not even counting the little things like people letting me enter into a lane when coming out of a driveway, or someone opening the door a macy’s. 

what have i learned from all this? it may sound corny, but nice-ness is all around us, we just have to pay attention
